01The cookie we set

NEXT_LOCALE — stores the language you are reading the site in, as a short language code such as 'en' or 'fr'. It lasts one year, and it lets us show you the same language when you come back rather than sending you to the default every time.

On a first visit we may set it from the country your network connection appears to be in, so that a visitor in France is not shown English by default. It holds a language code only. It does not identify you, and it is not shared with anyone.

02Product analytics, where enabled

We may run Microsoft Clarity, a product-analytics service that records how pages are used — where a pointer moves, what is clicked, how far a page is scrolled — so we can see which parts of the site are working. It sets its own cookies to tell one visit from another.

This is not a cookie the site needs in order to function, and you can refuse it. Microsoft publishes a general opt-out that applies across every site using Clarity, and blocking third-party scripts or cookies in your browser will also prevent it running here. Nothing on this site stops working if you do.

Where it is not enabled, none of this applies and the language cookie above is the only one set.

03What we do not set

We do not use advertising cookies, we do not use cross-site tracking cookies, and we do not run advertising or social media pixels on this site.

04Managing it

You can delete this cookie, or block cookies altogether, in your browser settings. The site will keep working; it will simply stop remembering your language between visits.
